Fried Green Tomatoes

- Prepare the Green Tomatoes:
- Wash the green tomatoes thoroughly under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Slice the tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds, discarding the ends.
- Set Up Breading Stations:
- In three separate shallow bowls, set up a breading station. Place flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs mixed with milk in the second bowl, and a mixture of cornmeal, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.
- Bread the Tomato Slices:
- Dredge each tomato slice in the flour, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the floured tomato slices into the egg mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- Finally, coat the tomato slices with the seasoned cornmeal and breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breading.
- Fry the Tomatoes:
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place the breaded tomato slices into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the skillet.
- Fry the tomatoes in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried green tomatoes from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve:
- Serve the crispy fried green tomatoes hot, garnished with a sprinkle of salt and pepper if desired.
- Pair them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or remoulade, for added flavor.
