Wrap your Vanocka and store it at room temperature for up to 2 days . It will keep longer in the fridge but may dry out slightly.

Step 1
Mix butter, salt and milk.

Mix in the sugar. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.

Place the yeast and warm water in the bowl of a food processor.

Leave it on for a few minutes until it becomes foamy.

Pour in the milk mixture.
Step 6
Add the eggs. Stir to combine.
Step 7
Stir in three cups of flour. Fold in raisins, almonds, candied citrus fruit, and the rest of the flour. Beat for 3 to 5 minutes, until smooth.

Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth or cling film.

Leave in a warm place.
Step 10
Wait until it doubles in size.
Step 11
Lightly flour a work surface. Roll out the dough. Cut the dough into 3 large pieces and 5 smaller pieces.

Roll each piece into a thin strand.

Braid the three large ropes, pinch the ends together, then tuck the ends under the loaf. Place on a baking sheet. Braid three of the smaller ropes and place the smaller loaf on top of the larger braided loaf.

Twist the remaining two ropes together and then place them on top of the smaller braid. Pin the ends together. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until double in size.
Step 15
Preheat your oven to 400F. Brush the loaf with egg.

Garnish with almonds.
Step 17
Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 325°F. Bake for an additional 30 to 45 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool completely before slicing.
Step 18
Garnish with powdered sugar and serve.
